With rain and bad light playing spoilsport in the second Test between India and Bangladesh, the play was called off on Day 1 after just 35 overs. Indians have sent the Bangladeshis three down for 107 in the 35 overs on the opening day, and this surely indicates that India is in an advantageous position over bangladesh.
Bad weather conditions spoiled the play
It looks like the climate in Kanpur has not been very kind for cricket. As clouds played hide and seek throughout the opening session, the start of the game was also delayed by half an hour. Taking advantage of the conditions, Indian captain Rohit Sharma made a surprise call to bowl first and go with three seamers, and the decision looked to be paying well as India sent Bangladesh to the stumps at 107/3 after 35 overs.
India chose to bowl in test for the second time
Now, this is for the second time the team has chosen to bowl first in 24 Test matches in Kanpur. Earlier, this had happened in the 1964 Test match against England.
Rohit’s decision turned out to be right
Rohit took advantage of damp pitch and his call paid dividends early on as the pace trio of Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep troubled the Bangladesh openers, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam.
Akash Deep, Ravichandran Ashwin kept the skippers in check
The first change bowler was Akash Deep and he got the wicket in his first over when he sent back the struggling Zakir for a 24-ball duck. Bangladesh player Najmul Hossain Shanto came to bat early at No.3 ahead of Mominul Haque. However, the Indian bowlers caused difficulties with their probing lines and kept bangladesh skippers in check. Interestingly, In third over, Akash got Shadman Islam LBW on a review after the umpires ruled him not out. Then, the Indians went for the review and as it turned out, the ball was hitting the leg stump and the hosts were happy.
Bangladeshi skippers managed to do some good work
At 29/2, after being in hot waters, the Bangladeshi skipper came to the middle and fought alongside Mominil. Definitely, they did good work to see off the remainder of the first session before Ravichandran Ashwin struck early in the second session, getting Shanto plumb in front with an in-drifter. On the opening day, the batting conditions were not the best and Bangladesh are in trouble at the end of the day, as they ended on 107/3, with Mominul Haque top-scoring with 40. He remained unbeaten alongside Mushfiqur Rahim, Who is looking to become the first Bangladesh batter to score 6,000 Test runs on Day 2.
