Era: Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, with 4 eras. About 15-20% of the world’s population follows this religion and are called Hindus. 95% of the people of India follow this religion. There is diversity in Hinduism, which is not limited to philosophers, scientists, historians, astrologers and brahmins. Many scholars and researchers also believe that the customs and symbols of Hinduism are more than 4000 years old.
Religion is associated with many beliefs, so it has different types such as “family of religions” or “way of life”. People who follow Hinduism worship different gods. And some people believe that they are manifestations of three gods called Trimurti: Brahma, Vishnu or Mahesh.
In this Brahma is the creator of the universe, Vishnu is the protector of the universe, he takes care of the universe and establishes religion, Shiva tolerates the birth and death of the universe and all its living creatures. According to Hindu religion, it was created in 4 eras, it is believed that in every era, Lord Vishnu has incarnated on earth to destroy evil.
According to these 4 eras, they are as follows
- Satya Yuga
- Treta Yuga
- Dwapar Yuga
- Kali Yuga
Yuga Chakra is the cycle in which Brahman moves. According to historians and scholars, Brahman is formed in 4 Yugas, which we have learnt above. According to this, the length of Yug Chakra decreases by 25% in every Yuga. Its ratio is 4:3:2:1. This means that Satya Yuga is 1,728,000 (4800 Divya years) long, Treta Yuga is 1,296,000 (3600 Divya years) long, Dwapar Yuga is 864,000 (2400 Divya years) long and KaliYuga is 432,000 (1200 Divya years) long.
Each Yuga is divided into 4 periods. The main period of Yuga is real Yuga. The Yuga which is preceded by the dusk of the Yuga is followed by the dawn of the Yuga, wherein each dusk lasts for one-tenth of the initial period. It is believed that these 4 Yugas are associated with one of the 4 powers of Maya. These Yugas are an explanation given to help mankind understand and control the powers of Maya.
Satya Yuga
In Hinduism, the first era of the Yuga Chakra is Satya Yuga. It is considered to be the longest era among all the eras. This era was the era of truth and humanity. The work done in this era is considered to be the purest form. This era is also considered to be the Golden Age.
It means the age of truth and honesty; hence it is called Satya Yuga. It is considered to be the most important age among the four Yugas. All the pillars of religion were present in this era. It is from here that Santana Dharma was established. As we have told that Lord Vishnu takes incarnation in all the Yugas. In this era, God took four incarnations: Matsya, Varah, Karma and Narasimha. It is said that in that era, the average age of a human being started from 100,000 years and gradually decreased to 10,000 years. In this era, humans did not fall ill.
Neither did there used to be conflict between people. There were no finding faults in each other and no person had shortcomings like sadness, violence, hatred, ego, anger, laziness and hatred.
Treta Yuga
This is the second age which is also known as the Silver Age. Treta Yuga means the union of three things, so humans experienced three incarnations in this age which were the fifth, sixth, and seventh. In this age, God took incarnations in the form of Vaman, Parashurama, and Rama.
In this age, humans came to know about agriculture and mining as a means of earning livelihood. In this age, humans focused more on earning wealth and capital and less on spirituality. The qualities and powers of humans decreased. Climate change happened so fast and so often that it led to the formation of the oceans and the desert.
The average lifespan of humans decreased by 1000-10000 years. Despite all this, this age was a source of knowledge, which helps in understanding the powers given to humans and the nature of Brahman. One of our religious texts, the epic Ramayana, is an event that took place in this age.
Dwapar Yug
The third age is Dwapar Yuga which is also called Bronze Age. It means two pairs. In this age humans were very weak, dark and corrupted with evil qualities. They were not as strong as their ancestors. They were sick, fought with each other, indulged in misdeeds and were dissatisfied.
During this time, a decline in spiritual and religious beliefs was observed. Due to this, people became competitive and pleasure seeking. In this era, Vedas were divided into four parts, Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaveda. Brahmins had studied and accepted all the three Vedas but the fourth Veda was difficult to accept.
After this distinction and classification, different activities came into existence. A life of deceit and fraud, man becomes afflicted with diseases and various desires. The pious and religious souls get destroyed and human life is no longer completely truthful. On realizing their wrong deeds and sins, man performs big yagnas and haven’s to attain worldly benefits and divinity. Mahabharata, one of our religious scriptures, is an incident of this era. In this era, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shri Krishna was born. In this incarnation, he took the path of establishing religion and teaching the world the definition of love.
KaliYuga
The fourth and the worst era is also known as the Iron Age. After the end of this era, a new Yuga cycle begins which will start with Satya Yuga. This Yuga is the current era of time in which we are living now. According to the scriptures, it is said that this era is full of conflict and sins. In this era, the lifespan of people has decreased to just 100 years. Kali in Sanskrit means quarrel, fight, conflict and dispute. This era began with the arrival of the demon Kali, In KaliYuga, sins and misdeeds are at their peak. This age is full of darkness
