Ganesh Chaturthi marks the beginning of the 10-day Ganesh festival, which concludes on Anant Chaturthi. It is said that Vedvyas ji had requested Ganesh ji to write Mahabharat Granth. Vedvyas ji continuously telling the story and Ganesh ji continuously wrote Mahabharat katha for 10 days.
Due to writing non-stop at one place, dust accumulated on Ganesh ji’s body. Due to this on the day 10th Ganesh ji took a bath in Saraswati River and cleaned the dust. Since then, the idol of Ganpati established on Ganesh Chaturthi and is worshiped for 9 days and then immersed in water for 10th day.
