Cloud storage is a solution for us in which we can store all our files, photos or personal details. We only use Google Drive and Apple iCloud to store them. Apart from these, there is another one which provides these at a lower price and one such solution is Jio Cloud.
Just like Google Drive, JioCloud also offers a cloud-based digital service that allows users to store photos, videos, documents, music and more online and access them on any device with an internet connection. With the latest announcement of free 100 GB cloud storage by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), many people are now looking at JioCloud as an alternative to the prices of Google Drive and Apple iCloud subscriptions.
Google Drive can be used by both Android and iOS users, while iCloud is mostly used by Apple users as it integrates very well into the ecosystem. Similarly, JioCloud meant for Jio network users currently offers 5 GB of free cloud storage while there is an option for anyone to access it using a Google/Facebook or Access is available to users with an Apple ID and comes with free storage space of only 2 GB.

What is Jio Cloud and how to use it?
JioCloud is a cloud storage service created by RIL for Jio network users. With every recharge plan, Jio users will also get 5GB of free cloud storage, which can be used to store digital data like photos, videos, audio, and documents.
As announced by Mukesh Ambani at RIL’s 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), the company will offer 100GB of free cloud storage under the Jio AI Cloud Welcome Offer from this Deepavali, while a similar plan from Google One costs Rs 1,300 annually. This offer is likely to be limited to the first year and Jio will introduce new plans for those who need more storage.
According to the company, Jio Cloud currently has over 59 million users and stores around 29,000 TB of data, including 16 billion files and 20 billion contacts. In terms of security, Jio Cloud is as secure as any other cloud storage service provider and uses AES 256 encryption, which uses a 256-bit key to protect data All the servers running Jio Cloud are ISO verified and all this happens in India only.
Jio Cloud has a dedicated app for Android, iOS, Windows and macOS-powered devices, and is also compatible with Jio Phone, which runs on a special version of several OS. To use JioCloud, one can download the app from the respective app stores or access it via the web from jiocloud.com.

For someone like me, whose digital life is woven around Google’s cloud services, getting on board with JioCloud won’t be that difficult. However, currently, the limited cloud storage of just 5 GB makes it inadequate, the only way to get additional storage of up to 15 GB is by referring the service to friends and family.
The Android version of the JioCloud app is free to use, it requires an OTP to log in, which enhances the security aspect of the app. Even when compared to Google Drive, JioCloud has a few advantages, including categorizing files according to their type (images, videos, documents), and even the option to share files with fellow JioCloud users.
It also has a folder called Offline Files, which allows users to access files uploaded to JioCloud even without the internet, and there is also a feature that allows users to mark important files as favourites. Another interesting feature of JioCloud is the built-in document scanner, which makes it easy to upload and scan digital documents. There is also an option to create a private folder, which only you can use by setting a password in your own way.
It also provides information about the storage used. Like every major cloud storage service, all files deleted from JioCloud will first move to the trash, giving users options to free up space as well as a window to recover them within a certain time frame.
Is 5GB space limited compared to Google Drive?
As of now, Google Drive seems to be a better option, offering up to 15 GB of free cloud storage with every account. However, this will change when the Jio AI Cloud welcome offer is introduced, which will increase the free storage space limit to 100 GB.
